RRII 105 is highly susceptible to pink disease. Why?

One major reason for TPD incidence is the excessive removal of the metabolite resources form the tree. When their formation and removal from a tree are not properly balanced, the tree may become susceptible to TPD. The high yielding clone often produces more latex and when the level of exploitation of these trees exceeds the physiological capacity of the tree to regenerate latex the tree may succumbs to TPD.Indian Rubber Board says

We know that xylem is active according to the demand of phloem. When tapping starts on a standard growth we removes latex with some nutrients. The flow of balance latex through the vessels upwards will effect some deficiency like magnesium. To fulfill it to build bark sucking of magnesium from the phloem which is going down wards to grow the root. Drainage area and low pressure in phloem below tapping level permit to close the size of phloem. But after one year of tapping xylem is active and the phloem will not permit that much of pressure through it. At that stage phloem liquid brakes the vessels through weaker bark of the tree over tapping level (mainly the joining point of upward movement of latex and the downward movement of phloem liquid with high pressure) and permits the fungus to grow. The deficiency of magnesium starts after vegetative period. For flowers and seeds the consumption of magnesium increases. The harvesting is another reason for deficiency of magnesium. By the required application of secondary nutrients we can save the trees from pink (cheek in Malayalam) and patch canker.

The important nutrient deficiency is the reason for bark island, pink, patch canker, necrosis or brown bast etc. Availability of Magnesium on branches from leaves to the union at lower level will be higher and bark can fulfill the requirement easily. Thus bark of branches may be safe from the necrosis diseases. The function of lenticells food storage and removal of latex through tapping excess magnesium required to maintain  the stem up to the level of branch union mainly in summer. Alkaline soil or the pH of the soil above 6.5 is safe to apply magnesium and it functions well with carbonate or sulphate.

By avoiding  diseases RRII 105 is capable to maintain highest productivity in the World.

  1. I would like to know more details regarding how to plant rubber(budded) and the fertilizers used in the ancient stages. your site is very helpful for planters.
